| In recent years, translation researches have developed much rapidly in foreign and domestic countries. Many excellent and valuable research papers are produced which improve the translation theory and practice. Of course, the translator is discussed from different aspects. However, the translator's function hasn't been much discussed, especially in the meaning construction. So the author intends to discuss the translator's function from the perspective of functional grammar. It is a new way for the author to choose the topic.According to Roger Bell's translation model, the whole translation involves twoprocesses——analysis and synthesis. During the course of transition, the translatorfirst acts as a reader of the source text and then a writer of the target text. When the translator acts as a reader of the source text, he /she must have a careful analysis of the source text, including syntactic analysis, semantic analysis, pragmatic analysis and register analysis. Then the translator acts as a writer of the target text, he /she must have a thorough synthesis of the target text, including pragmatic synthesis, semantic synthesis and syntactic synthesis. Through the analysis and synthesis, the translator's function in the meaning construction can be realized. |
