This thesis is composed of five chapters. The exordium is a brief introduction to the research background, bibliographies, solution to key problems, research methodologies and original creativity of this thesis. The first to five chapters are the main body, arguing that the Randomness discussed in the thesis refers to the evolvement process of the plots of the accidental events that are in line with the theme of the three books, aesthetics of writer as well as the need of building up the characters and it reveals the inevitability of the development of history and society. Armed with philosophy on randomness and inevitability, the author divides the incidental plots of works into five categories, namely Time Randomness, Environment Randomness, Cause and Effect Randomness, Opposite of Randomness and Randomness Caused by Misunderstandings. It deliberates on the pros and cons of using randomness in literature works and it reveals the social background and the motivation of author's using of randomness so as to offer an appropriate and comprehensive understanding of randomness in the Three Yans. In finis, the author concludes the discussion and puts forward questions that remain to be further discussed. It's been proved that the Three Yans are novels that succeed with their plots. Works that are of incidental plots are the most popular ones and they are a genuine reflection of the diversity and complexity of social history. These works are no doubt the historic and cultural inheritance of the fine traditions of the Chinese nation that are eligible to be recognized as part of the great literary works in the world.
