The combination of music with novel is an important characteristic of Thomas Hardy's creation. This thesis focuses on the musical aesthetic characteristics in the saga novels of Thomas Hardy. Those musical aesthetic characteristics are obvious in the narrative of Thomas Hardy's novels. Music is not only integrated into the great nature but also embodied as the narrative object under different situations. The voice of nature and all the situations have great impact on the progressing of the novel and poeticizing the characters. What's more, folk songs with profound meaning also add some color to those novels.As organization is concerned, the novel of Thomas Hardy could be said . When organizing the novle, Thomas Hardy took into account the principles of music, thus formed the symphonic novel organization.Thomas Hardy's Novels are fairly unique in terms of structure as he constructed his works through the medium of music-composing theories, in order to make his stories like symphonies. Longitudinally, the time and space in these stories possess flowing features. Meanwhile, different parts of the novels form a Sonata-style dancing phalanx.Regarding how to express the themes, Mr. Hardy mobilized such means like leitmotif and polyphonic music, thus to illustrate plentiful connotations in his novels. To exhibit his themes, the author used repeated images which therefore created a kind of circulating atmosphere. As a result, Thomas Hardy's Polyphonic novels are composed of those clues, voice parts and ideas together.
