Using Newspapers In Teaching EFL In Middle Schools In China

With the advent of CLT, one of the most widely carried out teaching approaches in the world today is using authentic materials in foreign language teaching. Today in China, applying the English newspapers in foreign language classroom has aroused many teachers' and researchers' great interest. However, most of the researches have only been carried out in the universities, but not in middle schools. Based on the ideas of experts and other teachers who have done the same research in this field, a survey was conducted to watch on the effect of using English newspapers in teaching reading and writing. The writer has also taken into consideration the students' evaluation of using English newspapers in English class. Furthermore, the writer has demonstrated some of her teaching activities as well, hoping to discuss them with other teachers. The whole thesis is divided into three parts. The first part is about the background of the study and some basic theories. The second part is an introduction about some of the teaching activities often used in the writer's class; Part three is a survey on the effect brought about by using English newspapers in teaching apart from analysis and discussion on the result. Due to the small scale of this study, it needs a further study to prove whether the result is universally acknowledged.
