Chinese elementary reading and writing course is a specialized course to cultivate students' reading,essay writing and Chinese characters writing ability.It can lay the foundation for the foreign Chinese learners to develop the good habit of reading and writing.In order to improve the reading and writing ability,students require to practice a lot of meaningful exercises.Exercise plays a very important role in primary reading and writing materials,and the design and arrangement of the teaching material practice is directly related to the quality of the students' reading and writing level.So whether the textbook designers or those foreign language teachers should pay enough attention to provide students with the most sophisticated and most practical exercises in the textbook.Nowadays the world has set off a craze for Chinese language learning,and the research on Teaching Chinese as a foreign language has been paid more and more attention under this circumstances.However,there are few researches on primary reading and writing materials.Meanwhile the study about the practice in the primary reading and writing material is in its infancy stage.The author found that there are some problems about the exercises in the elementary reading and writing course of the series of developing Chinese when she used the textbook to teach the foreign Chinese learners during her Master's Degree.The design and arrangement of the exercises can not meet the needs of different students.After carefully reading the relevant literature,and the previous research results,combined with her own teaching experience,the author compared the exercises from three different series of primary Chinese reading and writing practice named Developing Chinese,Approach:Introductory Chinese and Scenery Chinese by using the method of comparison and statistical analysis.She found some similarities and some differences about the exercise types,quantity,location,distribution of the exercises picture insert and other some aspects.At the same time the exercise types In the three sets of textbooks was also compared with the question types of the new HSK 4.Through the above comparison,Five aspects problems of the three sets of textbooks in the exercises' amount,exercise style and distribution,exercise types' coverage rate of HSK 4examination,exercise setting position and practice interest deficiencies were found.Besides that the author also get some inspiration about practice arrangement of theteaching materials.finally,according to the discovery insufficiency the author proposed reasonable suggestions about the exercise arrangement and design of the elementary Chinese reading and writing textbooks,hoping these suggestions will play a positive role in improving the practice effect of the primary reading and writing course.
