A Study Of The University Students' Gender Role Expectation On Two Dimensions

In order to probe into the situation of today's university students'expectation for the male and female gender roles, the research is made for the questionnaires of the university students'gender role trait expectation and their career ---family tendency expectation. All together, the research contains materials of 1200 university students from 3 universities in Jiangsu Province, and the present situation of the gender role trait expectation and career-family tendency expectation of university students in Jiangsu Province have been separately analyzed.After analysis and discussion, I have reached the main conclusions below:1. Both the self-composed questionnaires to the university students'gender role trait expectation and their career-family expectation contain male sub-questionnaire and female sub-questionnaire with good reliability and validity. The exploration of the factor analysis has got 7 factors university students have for male trait expectation, and 7 for female trait expectation; university students have 3 tendencies for male career-family tendency expectation, and 4 for female career-family tendency expectation.2. University students'expectations for both male and female tend to Androgyny. But their expectation for male perseverance is obviously higher than their expectation for female, and their expectations for female pleasantness, communicative competence and female disposition are higher than their expectations for male.3. University students hold the expectation for both male and female on career-family tendency. But their expectation for male is on the basis of career, with family in the second place; their expectation for female is on the basis of family, with career in the second place.4. There are differences in male and female university students'expectations to male and female gender role traits.5. There are differences in grade for university students'expectations to the marks of the factors of male and female gender traits.6. There are differences in male and female university students'expectations to the male and female career-family tendency.7. There are differences in the city and the country crowd's expectations to the male career-family tendency.
