The Study Of Metonymy Meanings Of Words In Chinese

This thesis systematically studies the metonymy meanings of words in Chinese. We mainly define and classify metonymy meanings of words in Chinese first, then analysis the characteristic and the source, pointing the problem in present study. We hope this thesis will contribute to the study of metonymy meanings of words.Firstly, we explain what to metonymy meanings of words through a lot of material, by analyzing the relation and difference in category, metonymy style, purpose between metonymy meanings of words and metonymy rhetoric, which help people understand the relation between them.Secondly, we classify metonymy meanings of words in Chinese into nineteen types ,several subdivisions, according to metonymy style, and analysis their characteristic and reason in syllable,the meaning of a word.
