In the days of information, science, technology and information develop very rapidly, product tend to homogeneity increasingly, people have no longer satisfied with substance consume such as function and practical value etc., but the psychic mentality pursue of culture and symbol consume is enhanced more and more. Product develops towards the direction of diversification, individuation, otherness and humanity. The appearance of new material and advanced technology gives the designer more inspiration and originality space. They pursue the organic combination of configuration, color and texture to make the product have more expression and meaning and to meet the different people's need in modern today, embodying the harmonious coexistence of human being, machine and entironment.Texture semantics is the information transfer of material characteristic and texture. The texture of material gives people the expression of visual and touch, psychic association and symbolize sense. Though perfect function and configuration is vital, material selection ought to be scientific and reasonable, making it play speciality and aesthetic feeling can not be neglected, which will affect the final visual impression. Product is used as the symbol that bears the function of transferring the information. Material and texture are used for the basic elements and expression, so they must embody the recognize experience and expression that are brought by texture.This paper studies the material's visual and touch perception from the view of semantics. By the ways of collection and analysis of literature, and questionnaire survey, extension and intension of texture semantics and attribute of material texture are discussed, at the same time, semantics atmosphere created by different texture, abundant semantics produced by the same material with different surface processing, the relation of texture semantics, configuration and color and the texture combination etc. are figured out. By this study, reference to interrelated field for product design is given.
