The works of minority ethnic writers have been an important part of Chinese Literature. However, it seems that there is a barrier between the Han Nationality and the minority ethnic groups. LIYUAN Xiao-di is a particular poet and critic in some way. A valued phenomenon, in which the many-faceted cultures are mixed, exists in his works. Some questions to his works are worth being considering. However, few comments talk about him in the main string of the Chinese Contemporary Literature. This thesis attempts to make a comprehensive observation about the critics and poems of LIYUAN Xiao-di and discuss what writing strategies he uses, how he exercises them, why he deploys them, and what impacts are those strategies brought forth. Concretely, Chapter One introduces the mystery of LIYUAN Xiao-di's life and how he and the critics take advantage of the mystery. Chapter Two focuses on his criticism to analyze his literature theory and raise several important problems such as the "Dualism: the Han and the Minority" and the "Paradox of Nobel Prize". Chapter Three, which bases on LIYUAN Xiao-di's theory, lays emphasis on his short poems and the TV poem "Xuehong". Furthermore, it explores his conceptions about the many-faceted cultures and the paradox in the writing practice. Chapter Four, which bases on both criticism and poem of LIYUAN Xiao-di, compares the poems written by LIYUAN Xiao-di and four other poets. And it goes deeper into discussing the relationship between native languages and Han language writing. To some degree, this thesis puts forward questions independently and utilizes the poet's theory to analyze his own poems, instead of using the Han's critic words. It demonstrates the writing history and connotation of LIYUAN Xiao-di and the complicated cultural relationships between the "Minority ethnic groups" and "Han".
