In the past three decades, in the fields of linguistics and applied linguistics, many results have emerged. Discourse linguistics appeared in this period. It depended on theoretical linguistics, sociology, psychology, anthropology, philosophy and principles of the various studies to establish its own theories and methods. Linguistics of various theories and principles learned one thing in common, that is, to focus on the use of language, study how people use real language rather than artificial sentences. For this reason, theories of discourse linguistics immediately aroused the interests of linguists. In language teaching, teachers' first consideration is how people use language actually, so the writer analyzed context, rhetoric and other factors' restriction to the study of discourse. Analyzing the restriction to discourse can help students understand the most effective language is the language used in proper context. This can not only improve the level of appreciating language works, but also enhance their ability of using language.This thesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter introduced what is discourse analysis. Chapter Two discussed the restriction of context. Chapter Three expounded style and discourse analysis. Chapter Four probed into topic and discourse analysis. Chapter five studied turn-taking and conversation analysis. Chapter six summarized the effect of relevance-theory.
