No matter in the east or the west, painting, as such kind of visual art, should be sensed through material form the painting language compromised of brush-pencil , Chinese ink, color, paper and intermedium. Rooted in China, the Chinese watercolor art is characterized of Chinese tradition. Yet no systematical theory has ever been found during the 230 years of watercolor development on the Chinese-western views of art, aesthetics, technology, and language of painting. The essay tries to trace the way by which the Chinese watercolor developed through studying the disciplinarian of western paining and the theory of Chinese painting, and dissertates the merge of Chinese and western art by studying the technological relationship of creation between the two surround the theme of"from technology to spirit".The technology of painting is the tool of art creation, and is quite essential. But technology also includes rare things. Maybe the writer can not explain quite clearly, but the logical thinking of the relationship between the technology and the spirit in the art field makes more sense. The essay discusses the examples of Chinese-western painting technology, concepts, aesthetics and thesis, and discusses the revolution of Chinese watercolor in the changing process of the world art through comparing.As a student of watercolor art, writer emphasizes both practice and theory, studies and merges different kinds of art through studying, analysis and comparing, hoping the watercolor art will have a good future in China and develops with the time.
