Winslow Homer is an American painter known for his native customs in the late 19 th century and is regarded as one of the embodiment of the American Spirit.He used strong contrast colors and unique close-range composition to reflect the customs and customs of the United States at that time.Although the radiative power of his works did not extend to a painting school or an art movement,he had a profound impact on later genres and paintings.This paper takes Winslow Homer as a case to analyze the subjects of his creation theme,picture effect,emotional expression,etc.,and discusses his humanistic spirit and works characteristics,as well as his contribution to the formation of American watercolor style.By means of literature retrieval,case analysis and work comparison,this paper focuses on the evolution of Homer watercolor style from the background of American painting in the 19 th century and the general characteristics of watercolor painting.This paper discusses the transformation of American painting from tradition to modernity in the second half of the19 th century,expounds the development process of American painting from the influence of Europe to the formation of American characteristics,and finds out the bright artistic style of watercolor painting.Free and easy,etc.Finally,the author looks forward to how to develop and strengthen the characteristics of Chinese watercolor painting.
