Jiang Kui has never gained a unanimous approval in the history of Ci. Because of the shortage of original materials about him, the small amount of his Ci, and the difficulty in defining targets about whom his Ci were cherishing, many people, even Xia Chengtao, the expert on Jiang Kui, can not avoid make omissions. The characteristics of Jiang Kui's Romantic-love Ci can be summarized as true feelings, rich containment, and remote charms. Wang Guo-wei "loves them but also knows the limits", so he comments them with such words as "distant","artificial" and "cold", which also falls in bias. The factors contributing to the characteristics of Jiang Kui's Romantic-love Ci can be studied in 3 aspects: the aspect of individual, the aspect of his society and that of his viewpoints on art and literature. As for individual, Jiang Kui, proud and aloof in feelings, has a lifetime full of frustrations. As for the society of his time, Jiang Kui has a special reader circle. And as for his viewpoints on art and literature, Jiang Kui holds that poems, novels and music should be neutral, natural and lively and he indeed puts such kind of viewpoints into practice. All of the above three aspects bring about a quite different characteristics of "my poems being just mine", so Jiang Kui's Romantic-love Ci, in some sense, has gone beyond the the Ci study field and escalated into cultural reconstruction of scholar-officials in imperial times.
