Practice Study Of Communicative Approach Teaching In College English Class

Teacher-centered approach in English language teaching is not adapted to the requirement-Quality Education. With the strength of the relationship between China and the world, the communicative function of English becomes the main purpose of English teaching. However different levels of English examinations are quite popular, many schools put the emphasis on the passing rate of examinations, and most English teachers neglect to develop the communicative competence of students. Students fail to make correct communication in class.How to alter the tendency of utilitarianism? The author believes the best solution is to advocate the communicative teaching approach. The communicative approach is not a single or fixed pattern. The roles of communicative approach are "using languages to learn" and "learning to use languages" rather than "learning languages", let alone 'learning knowledge about languages". The communicative approach aims at letting students attain communicative competence. In class, students are involved in communicative environment. They acquire English language and communicative competence by listening, writing, reading, and speaking.Based on the practical situation of students and my teaching experiences on intensive reading for English major, the thesis make a tentative analysis on the feasibility and the necessity of the communicative approach in the application of English teaching. It proves that designing varieties of communicative activities which are close to the real situation are helpful for cultivating students' communicative competence. Meanwhile, achievements and problems during implementing the communicative activities are discussed and considered in order to improve our English teaching and to seek better teaching methods to enhance the practical situation teaching English at Hulunbeir College.
