Er Cheng's Quotations Vocabulary Research

The Er Cheng's Quotations is the general name of YiShu and WaiShu written by the Song Dynasty's Confucianism scientist brothers Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao. As an important language material of latter-day Chinese language, the Er Cheng's Quotations has the research value that the research of the latter-day Chinese language development history has. And there are a great deal of new phrases and new meanings in the book, and some phrases' denotative meanings have also been extended, having the obvious Confucianism science color and colloquial character, can reveal the inevitable outcome of language development. Furthermore, the construction of its vocabulary can also reflect some phenomenon of phrase-constructive method development of latter-day Chinese language. This paper focuses on the Er Cheng's Quotations' vocabulary as research object, in order to supply more abundant proofs, reveals the development sequence of Chinese vocabulary history, and supplies several ideas for big Chinese dictionaries.This paper consists of five chapters: the first chapter is exordium, introducing the accordance of the topic, the Er Cheng's Quotations' research value, the foregone research achievements, and this paper's research method. The second chapter cleans up the representative new phrases and new meanings, then chooses some to explain. The third chapter analyzes the new phrases and new meanings' frame of the Er Cheng's Quotations, from the new phrases' born methods such as similar meaning joining, word elements lapping, phrases changing, adding affix, and from the developing channels of new meanings, such as extension, substantive changing to modest, changing. The forth chapter proceeds with the Er Cheng's Quotations' phrases, inspects some of the Great Dictionary of Chinese Vocabulary's problems, such as late proofs, not-exploring the handing down proofs, proofs spanning too big, omission of proprietary nouns, to contribute to the big Chinese dictionaries' editing and revising. The fifth chapter is conclusion, summing up four characters of the Er Cheng's Quotations' phrases: history successive nature, word element meaning union nature, Confucianism color and colloquial character.
