Since the 1970s, research interest in EFL has shifted from teachers'teaching to students'learning and increasing number of studies have been undertaken from the students'perspective. These studies are mainly concerned with individual learner differences and the second language learning process. Language learning strategies (LSs) and communication strategies (CSs), which are regarded as an indispensable part of second language learning process, become one of the most eye-catching areas in the field of SLA. Language learning strategies are regarded as techniques or steps second or foreign language learners take to facilitate their language learning or language use. While Communication strategies (CSs) are major means to keep communication going on when difficulties or even breakdowns occur in communication. They help the speakers to reach their communicative goals. CSs are of great importance for Chinese learners, who, although equipped with much grammatical knowledge, often find it hard to maintain their conversation with native speakers. The present thesis is written primarily for Chinese teachers and researchers to get a panorama of status quo of the relationship among communicative competence (CC), learning strategies (LSs) and communication strategies (CSs) of non-English majors in China.This thesis is composed of four chapters.Firstly, the thesis gives a general description of the theories on communicative competence in Chapter 1 by beginning with Hyme's theory on CC, which is followed with Canale and Swain's theory of CC by analyzing the four components: grammatical competence, discourse competence, sociolinguistic competence and strategic competence.Secondly, Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 focus on introducing learning strategies and... |
