Through the research, the dissertation hopes to deduce some conclusions and laws which can be used as references to the current practice. This study considers that Imperial Examination is one of selective examinations, whose goal is to get the rare social resources and it has essential difference from the qualification examination. Imperial Examination system is away from the process of public school education, and the latter is under the control of the former by contents, forms and goals. The differences in content, form and target between Imperial Examination and public school are the root contradiction of them. Their contradiction had been lasting from Tang dynasty to the end of Qing dynasty. For this special contradiction, Imperial Examination was the goal of public school education, and correspondingly, the imperial examination to the public school was an instrumentality. The confined, stiff content and forms of Imperial Examination, [0]conflict with profuse content and multiplex goals of public school, led to its abolishment at last. College Entrance Examination is one kind of selective examinations either, which is oriented and confined powerfully to education. We can get some inspiration brought from Imperial Examination and public school education as references to current educational problems, such as the problems of"one-sided pursuit of the rate of entering college"and"save or abolish the College Entrance Examination".
