With the prosperity of economy and the boom of globalization, the demand of professional translators of high quality has been increasing dramatically in various fields. Then the exploration on effective ways of training qualified translators becomes a crucial issue. However, translation teaching has not been given an adequate attention and has been bearing some misconceptions for long until 1990s. During the years from 1992-1999, great efforts have been made and many survey reports on translation teaching are published, to have pushed an ever-first flourish of translation teaching research in China at the end of 20th century. This thesis would make a tentative survey on the status quo of translation teaching in recent years from 2000-2005, to attempt to trace the changes in translation education after the ever-first flourish of translation teaching research. Taking the highlights of contemporary translation teaching theories by Jean Delisle and Douglas Robinson as the guidance, the author devises the questionnaires about translation teaching and about the investigation of the translation personnel market. Based on the questionnaires conducted on undergraduate English major translation teaching and on enterprises/institutions translation personnel, the author makes his statistic analysis on the dada, to describe the latest progress of the translation teaching activities and in the meantime the remaining problems from 2000-2005. Then, in the light of the theories of "translation competence training" and "person-centered translation teaching" by Jean Delisle and Douglas Robinson, this thesis puts forward a set of suggestions on the prospects of translation teaching for a breakthrough. Therefore, this thesis tentatively would make a latest research on translation teaching in recent 5 years, to try to put forward some suggestions on the future development as to solve the remaining problems. This paper aims to be instructive in translation teaching ideology and to be conductive to the practical translation teaching reform.
