Among his works, Feiming's novels prove to be the most typical and the most influential. As far as his novels are concerned, the former researchers have either studied some particular stylistic features or compared his works with those of others. Macro research on his style has remained a virgin territory. This research is such an effort: guided by Freudian psycho-analysis, this article conducts a detailed study of the text and examines the styles of his novels in different periods with an aim to reconstruct the style of his novels in general. This effort breaks down into three parts:I. Dream tracing: inspired by Freud's "Writer and Daydreaming", this section studies such factors, which have added up to Feiming's idyllic dreams in his novels, like his pains and suffers in the childhood, his disposition, the infiltration of Chan, the enlightenment of his tutor, in reading in particular.II. Dream constructing: this section investigates, much in a Freudian way, the content and features on Feiming's idyllic dreams. These dreams are reconstructed, by examining the text, in two ways: the beauty of image and the beauty of simplicity. The sentimental traits are then displayed by analyzing his esthetic pursuits and his poetic and Dhyanian language. The Chan content, which is characteristic of his dreams, is also investigated via the analysis of Bridge.III. Dream deconstructing: this section analyzes the life experience andFeiming's studies on traditional literature and Buddhism, and establishes that Feiming's novels in the late period have returned from idyllic to realistic, and from full of sentiments to rich in frank senses. Together with this change is the Chan content that has turned to "formless, thoughtless, and resideless."This article finally concludes that the style of Feiming's novels generally changes in two ways: in terms of content, from dreams to facts; in terms of form, from poetic to prosaic.
