This dissertation attempts to attain an overview of the development of lacquer ware in the whole dynasty, and grasp the core of the modeling design. As a conclusion, the lacquer ware bears its peculiar practical as well as cultural value, which could be an enlightenment to the reviving of modern Chinese lacquer ware for practical use.This dissertation puts lacquer ware in the whole dynamic times to analyze the outside influential factors and the interior profound principle for its change. With a diachronic study, this dissertation refers to the history of the development of Chinese lacquer ware, the successive stages of the techniques of japanning, the progressiveness of the stamps on lacquer ware and the twin peaks of antique lacquer ware----- one, from War state period to Han Dynasty, and the other, Song Dynasty. With a synchronic study, it concerns the contemporary comparison between the official and unofficial hand crafts in Song Dynasty; between lacquer ware and china, lacquer ware and gold-silver ware, lacquer ware and jade ware. Based on sufficient material of unearthed wares and ancient writings, combining personal investigations and comments from experts, oriented historically, this dissertation tries to make an elaborate and deep research into the field of lacquer ware for practical use of Song Dynasty.The modern Chinese lacquer ware for practical use is in a slump that itcould not find its place in modern life and market competition. Proved by the historical development of lacquer ware in Song Dynasty, the modern Chinese lacquer ware for practical use would find its way to the agreement of practical use as well as aesthetic admiration. The cultural value would also find its full expression.
