Research On Tarkovsky's Film Concept

Tarkovsky's films have been exclusive from mainstream of Russian films, and also considered to be difficult to understand. But I consider that a thought different from mainstream is needed for understanding his films. This dissertation aims to analyze his films from the point of photograph, and indicate the difference, that is, the exterior is illusionary, the indication is poetic, and the essence is true, and also, studying Tarkovsky's film concept is the main point of this dissertation.All of Tarkovsky's films are from his life experience, ordinary but different from our daily life. He would like use photographs and pictures to pursue the truth, and create a space for imagination and a new world for audience. Tarkovsky believes that film is part of life, and owning to its pictures and photographs, it's the most suitable way to express life. He creates a new world: illusionary but close to ordinary life, and a slightly different from reality. It seems to be contradictory, but Tarkovsky makes a balance between untruth and truth. To truth, Tarkovsky has his own unique point, and express it by a poetic way. To understand his film concept, we have to understand his concept about poetry, which he thinks is different from mainstream. He thinks poetry is a philosophy of life, related to human's instinct, and cannot be departed from imagination. Also, it's same with the points of vico, a philosopher from Italy.So we may understand that Tarkovsky's concept is based on the life instinct, and his films aim to create a space for imagination, to use imagination to realize a great creativity easy to be ignored, and finally take the true feeling about life. The essence of Tarkovsky's films is about truth, which is not about the exterior, but the feeling from the deep heart and the consideration of human's existence.Tarkovsky's film concept is based on his understanding to poetry. Besides, it's also from Russia traditional culture and religion background. In another word, Tarkovsky's film is identified with his own national culture.This dissertation aims to sum up Tarkovsky's film concept from the point of photograph and picture, and bring some illumination for Chinese film production.
