At present, the internal film market is slump in China. There are neither good scripts nor attempting to interpret a good story according to the words of some certain film-makers. Actually, film is more an industry than a kind of art. Confronting both the strong invasion of Hollywood products and the intense competition among the world film market, the Chinese film must learn from others and carry forward the excellent tradition of national films to regain its vitality. The prominent achievement and good box office of narrative ethical films in different periods deserve a deep thinking for contemporary film-makers. It makes sense to sum, trace and discuss the ethical theme films. The thesis, analyzing the inheritance and transition of Chinese ethical films in 1990s, makes an attempt to go deep to the survival strategy of Chinese films under the global film atmosphere.First ,this paper sums up how does the narrative ethical tradition form and develop in Chinese film-making. For a century, ethical films have become a main type in China. In 1913,Zheng Zhengqiu became the originator of Chinese family ethical films by the film trading spouses. Cai Chusheng promoted the type by producing social ethical films in 1930s and 1940s. Xie Jin made out the political ethical films in 1970s and 1980s. These films which won both compliments and large audience all pictured the family ethics. By the brief recalling of the 100 years'vicissitude history of Chinese film, the inheritance and transition of Chinese ethical film since 1990s can be understood more clearly.Next,this paper focuses on the value vision of Chinese ethical films.Confucian ethics are based on the traditional Chinese practice of the rational and culture.They are concerning about"loving people"as their core and based on national body characterized by the blood ties.People used to stress"Three Leaderships"and"Five Relationships"."Three Leaderships" refers to the absolute leadership of the king or emperor over the ministers and other officials, husband over his wife and father over his children, while"Five Relationships"means the relationship between father and son, king or emperor and the ministers or other officials, husband and wife, the old and the young, and between friends. Among the"Five Relationships", the relationship between father and son, husband and wife, the old and the young belong to the family internal relationships. The relationship between king or emperor and the ministers or other officials is actually an extension of the the relationship between father and son while the relationship between friends is determined by the strict hierarchy. It can be inferred that the traditional Chinese ethics are based on the family ethics. The Confucian ethics influences the narrative pattern of Chinese ethical films which can be seen in the masterpieces of many famous Chinese film-makers such as Zheng Zhengqiu, Cai Chusheng, and Xie Jin. Although this ethics has been undergone a tremendous impact in 1905 when the Chinese film was born and has been changing away from the traditional one, it still holds the importance for the aesthetic taste and value vision, moreover, it ,to a great extent, influences the narrative pattern of Chinese film as well.Finally,this paper analyzes the development and changes of Chinese ethical films of 1990s. Three categories are included in it. They are state changes, family changes and the critical reflection of human nature and culture.Changes in the family and the state is speaking the story of a family on the nation's historical experience and no sense of wandering. These two narrative ethics to "The Blue Kite" and "Taiwan Events," as representatives of the political ethics, changes in the national and historical themes and moral themes of the era of integration, attacks the social ills.A family of state, through family interpersonal conflict and emotional contradictions, brought tremendous social and political issues.In variations of the family, the family film in the 1990s reflects the feelings and love, interpersonal relations between family and clan conflicts and disputes through constituting drama.Family changes are mainly about the emotional conflict and harmony between husband and wife, father and son, the old and the young.In a reflection of human nature, the "Ju Dou" and "Farewell My Concubine" and other films are examples to reflect the alienation and distortion of humanity.In a reflection of personal reflection, "Live" and "One And a Two"are as examples.Here, the family is changing display of the history of political ethics evaluation. The main premise of the family is to reveal the emotional dimensions of the ethical and moral conflicts. Alienation and distortion of humanity is revealed through the main character of the individual, human and cultural reflection and critical analysis. To judge the apathy and alienation of relationships is primarily through of the individual survive and the emotional state.Changes from the family, the family of specific human variation, human judging, 20 films in the 1990s the family's concerning on the basis of the family, display society, culture, variations and economic changes after the human family and personal reflection by the way images .The Chinese films are undergone the historical period of summarizing the experience and the lessons of the past film-making period and the stage of opening up a new pattern. Confronting both the strong invasion of Hollywood products and the intense competition among the world film market, it deserves a deep thinking for the Chinese temporary film-makers in order to make the film regain its vitality. It is not the best survival way of Chinese films which only focus on the legendary or even novelty-seeking narrative strategy, after the devaluation of the film atmosphere that, mainly about the"Cultural Revolution", fable of"home"and pseudo folk, is made by Zhang Yimo, and Chen Kaige. The study of the family ethical films which center on the real people's livelihood and the sorrow and happiness of the common will be a new start.
