On The Anecdotes, Achievement And Mistakes Of Emperor Qingxiang Of Chu State

This thesis mainly studies anecdotes, achievement and mistakes of Emperor Qingxiang of Chu State in history objectively. He has been on the throne for 36 years, less than a hundred years later Chu State annexed and occupied by Qin State. He lived in a complicated atmosphere and hence had complicated experiences. When he was prince, he had been captured twice. And when he became the king, he enjoyed comfortable and luxurious life and kept muddling along, which land himself in a passive position when confronted with the invasion of Qin State. He didn't show regrets and repentances until Capital Ying was conquered. After that he moved the capital to Chen and employed Zhuangxin at high levels. He made such remedial measures as strengthening defense and establishing friendly relationship with Qin State. His experiences were closely related with his personality. He was rash, content with the things as they are but at the same time he listened attentively and corrected an error when he was aware of it, all of which lead to his behavior and to some extent to the fate of Chu State. The last part of the thesis mainly evaluates his achievement and mistakes. According to the traditional ideas, he was regarded as a fatuous, self-indulgent and extravagant emperor with no strong points. However, the writer thinks he made some mistakes but also some achievement. The fall of Capital Ying not only resulted from his behavior, but also from some problem before him. Moreover, when Emperor Qingxiang moved the capital to Chen, despite the irresistible invasion of Qin State, he tried his best to stabilize his country and contributed to the short respite from annexation. Therefore, he made mistakes first and then achievement later.
