Ju state, one of the oldest Dongyi states established by Shaohao tribal descendants. According to historical documents and archaeological material, Ju state's history can be traced to ancient times."Wang Feng Ju"of Western Zhou Dynasty was just the state status acknowledgment. Ju state was unknown during the Western Zhou Dynasty, so that the history record was lost. Early Spring and Autumn Period, Ju gradually become strong and prosperous, showed active in the political arena. The late Spring and Autumn Period, Ju's power was on the decline and overthrown by Chu in BC431. Like with numerous feudal lord states, Ju state finally integrated to historical mighty torrent of the unified empire.Pre-Ju culture still maintained an independent tradition of Dongyi culture during Xia and Shang Dynasties. The culture of Ju state started the Yi and Xia integration process in Western Zhou Dynasty. Ju become powerful and its culture also developed to the acme in the Spring and Autumn Period. This article is intended to comb the history of Ju state, to make up historical documents lost, which have important meaning to inherit the historical culture. We can roughly see the outline of mutual infiltration integration by the multi-source culture represented by Shang Zhou royal court and the Dongyi culture represented by Ju state.About this research subject, old generation's historians did a lot of pioneering work despite great hardships. After the 1950s, with the archaeological work's expansion and the publication of the relevant information, the history and culture research of Ju state penetrated. Since the 1980s, to bring honor to the Chinese nation outstanding history, local history research upsurge gradually gets up, and along with the archaeological material's accumulation of Shang and Zhou Dynasties, the archaeology and the history research of pre-Qin ancient state has been on the rise. The research of Qi, Lu, Chu, Jin culture has been the focal points, whereas the research of small states is comparatively weak, it is precisely in this kind of context, the history and culture of Ju gradually receives attention and becomes a research hot spot soon. At present, according to historical documents and archaeological unearthed material, many scholars have made quite comprehensive analysis of the family and clan name, chronology and the burial features of Ju, as a result, some important problems concerning the chronology of Ju state in Zhou Dynasty have been solved, based on these achievements, further research of Ju state will be needed.Based on past research achievements, historical documents, combining archaeological data and unearthed documents, this article will focus on Ju state's origin, development, decline and fall by explaining various development stages of Ju state in detail. This article try to conclude the character of Ju culture in the light of local culture.This article consists of four parts. The first part introduces the history of Ju state can be trace to ancient times, explains how the ancestors of Ju moved towards the Neolithic Age from the uncivilized Paleolithic Age, and took the lead into the civilization era from the age of barbarism, then the initial ancient country arose at the historic moment. The Second introduces the history and culture of Ju state in Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties, and briefly analyses"Wang Feng Ju", the family and clan name, chronology, bronze culture of Shang and Western Zhou Dynasties. Pre-Ju culture still maintained a relatively independent tradition of Dongyi culture during Xia, Shang and Zhou Dynasties. The culture of Ju state started the Yi and Xia integration process in the Western Zhou Dynasty. The Third is the most important, which reviews Ju's territory, the domestic and foreign policy of Ju state, and analyses the decline and fall of Ju state. This part explains the culture of Ju reached its peak in the Spring and Autumn Period by introducing the economy and culture of Ju state. The Fourth briefly reviews the culture of Ju in Han Dynasty. The culture of Ju hasn't perished along with the fall of Ju state, and still maintained strong regional feature in the following as long as only one century, although Ju state was extinguished by Chu in early Warring States Period. The fifth is the concluding remarks, which macroscopically grasp the change of the history and culture of Ju state, and simply conclude the characteristics of Ju culture.
