The Research On Rhetorical Narratology

Rhetorical Narratology is a kind of theory which learn some methods from Rhetoric to study the narrative texts. The study of Rhetorical Narratology began from the publication of the book The Rhetoric of Fiction written by Wayne C. Booth. Booth was a member of The School of Chicago which was known by its research of Neo-Aristiteleantism. So it was natural for Booth to do such kind of research, and at the same time it was an inevitable outcome of the development of both narrative theory and rhetoric. The object of Rhetorical Narratology research is the relationship of the author, text and the reader and to study how the author reaches his rhetorical goal after he has used Rhetorical methods in the text. To research the rhetorical narratology firstly must face the relationship between author and implied author/ narrator/ reader. So to re-understand the author is very important for such object. From the author's Reader Dimension, I found the significance of the rhetorical methods to the literature history. To research the rhetorical methods is one of the important factors of the Rhetorical Narratology research. From the aspect of the relationship between the author and the text and reader, we can see that the rhetorical methods is under the conscious operation and this is the main factor of the reader-text rhetoric and the language-text rhetoric. But on the other hand, the out-text rhetoric and the non-technical rhetoric help us to see the other kind of living situation of the narrative rhetoric. The research of the rhetorical effect is the important content of the Rhetorical Narratology , it is also the factor which the researcher of the Rhetorical Narratology under the critics of reader diagram and the context of the culture study . But the rhetorical effect research is so complicated that I can just do some probing research on it, and will further my study in the future.
