A Study On The Resident Districts' Evolvement And Developmental Trend Of Lanzhou City (Since1949)

The research on the urban resident spatial structure obtains more achievements in the recent years. Most of the research focused on the point of sociology view, and studied the habitation problems of different people in cities. Based on the view of geographical region, this paper studied the distribution of resident districts of Lanzhou City. The chronometry is since 1949.Based on the field-survey, this paper used the quantitative analysis to analyze the changes of resident spaces. The resident spatial structures are classified as following: resident districts which built before 1980s; resident districts which built during 1980s to 1989s; commercial rensident districts which built in 1990s; modern resident districts built in the 21st century. Chengguang-Qilihe district expands faster than other districts, Anning and Xigu districts expands slowly since 1949.The resident spaces expand mainly toward east and west, and the living increased about 17.2km~2; the living increased toward southwest and northwest is under 1km~2. The living increased fastest in 1970s, achieved 9.3km~2; the living increased 5.8km in 1980s; and increased 4km during other years. Since 1980s, the living began to reduce in some directions, thereinto, reduced evidently during 1990 to 2002. Therefore, resident spaces expanded extensively before 2000, and intensively and dispersedly after 2000.The evolvement of resident spaces is the result of the movement of function and structure. The mechanism of resident space evolvement was the national policies of macroscopically control before the reform in 1978. The mechanism of resident space evolvement is not because of only national macroscopically control, but also because of the market-economy after the reform in 1978, especially in 2000. It includes individual preference of people, inhabitancy environment, decision of the developer, traffic conditions, rebuilding the old urban region act.Based on the above analysis, this paper analyzed the developmental trend of resident space of Lanzhou. The results are: the main resident region will be built in Chengguang-Qilihe and Anning districts, Xigu district will not emerge much resident space. Chengguang-Qilihe district will be rebuilt in recent years.
