Generally speaking, this paper is divided into two parts, the first one is the research on He Liangjun, the second one is the analysis and evaluation of his book, Qu Lun.He Liangjun was famous scholar and opera theorist of Ming Dynasty. He had a lot of writings. But the current academic research about him has been in a state of stagnation. This paper introduces He Liangjun from the start of his life, trying to determine and rectify some vague ideas such as the date of his birth and death, his birthplace and his books. For filling the academic blank, this paper put a brief chronology of him at the end to clarify his main activities.Although He Liangjun's book Qu Lun is very short, it is concise and pithy. Its impact spread from the beginning until today, accompanying with great controversy. However, the former research on Qu Lun was quite scarce. The majority of scholars just took it as their basis of argument. Few people attempted to judge and analyze it systematically. This paper tries to classify 30 pieces of words of Qu Lun. On the basis of distinguishing two major theoretical systems between the theory of nature and the theory of sound, this paper analyzes meticulously He Liangjun's thinking of aesthetics when he judged writers and their works. This paper treats the controversy dialectically which triggered by He Liangjun's opinions to affirm he's value and impact in the history of the study of opera.
