WenXuan is the oldest poetry collection which still remains in China . Lishan created the quotation type of exegesis which made the explanations of WenXuan reach its peak even in the initial stage and enable many people later to study it,to follow it. Annotations on WenXuan ,as China's most typical literary explanation,is obviously different with the traditionally philosophic explanation, especially the JingXue one.This paper tries to start with the dual nature of Lishan's Annotations on WenXuan (literature guide and annotations work);take WenXuan (the edition of China Publishing House in 1977) as a reference and combine the exegesis theory,the simultaneous description with the historic observation on the basis of the collation of predecessors' research results. Furthermore, it has a further research on the quotation type of exegesis on the basis of micro analysis in order to reveal a difference between Chinese literary explanation tradition and philosophic explanation one to some degree; to show the richness of Chinese exegesis tradition and to provide some reference for annotations on WenXuan and other literary selections study.The main contents of this paper include:I The quotation type of exegesis.II The principles and ways of the quotation type of exegesis in Lishan's Annotations on'WenXuan.III The contents of Annotations on WenXuan.IV The contributions and the limitations of Lishan's annotations on WenXuan,Concerning the contents of Lishan's Annotations on WenXuan,, this paper onlytries to lay emphasis on the contents of annotations with the quotation type of exegesis. It just gives a brief description of the contents of annotations adopting other forms.
