The great social upheaval provides a brandly new opportunityto the evolvement of Chinese traditional painting, which pushes the Chinese painting revolution to a crucial phase. Some propose total westernization and some others advocate to reform based on ancient tradition. Besides, under the guidance of proposition by XU Bei-hong to converge the western and Chinese painting techniques together, some painters endeavor to explore a new access to landscape painting in the experience of sketch process. LUO Ming is one of the successful pioneers. He studied western painting and combined it with Chinese traditional techniques and composed many excellent paintings which are friendly and realistic. He ran such thought through his early south-china sketch, then three-painter exhibition and late Huashan series. His inheritance and personalized creation facilitate the innovation and transformation of Chinese painting. His contribution has much to do with the present emphasis on frame-making but ignorance of sketch practice in China.
