The Research On Frontier Officials' Administration And Exploration To The Northwestern Rejion In The Lian Han Dynasties

Han Dynasty was an important historical period of China in which the northwest region was exploited, administrated and gradually unified. The present territory of northwest China initially came into being in that period. Han Dynasty made an effective exploitation and administration to this region, which was inherited and developed by the following generations. Frontier officials, as the administrators of northwest region sent by Han Dynasty, were the executors of the policies and laws made by the central government. They contributed much on the aspects of harmonizing the relationship and sustaining the solidarity between Han Dynasty and the frontier minorities in the northwest region, stabilizing the condition of the remote territory and popularizing the advanced technologies and culture of the inner land. On the basis of comparatively detailed and plenty statistics to the frontier officials of the northwest region in Han Dynasty, this thesis analyzes the district-specialized appointing policy in this region and discusses the exploitation and development made by the frontier officials and its influence.This thesis consists of two parts: the preface and the main body.In the preface, the significance of this thesis and the research situation at present are briefly reviewed.In the main body, three aspects are discussed as follow.The first chapter studies the frontier officials worked in northwest region in Han Dynasty and the distribution of their native places. This chapter firstly discusses the situation of the district in northwest region built by Han Dynasty in order to demonstrate that the unification of Han and the northwest region basically laid foundation for present territory of northwest China. And then it makes a detailed statistics to the distribution of the native places of frontier officials by way of comprehensive study on historical works.The second chapter discusses the electing properties of the northwest frontier officials in Han Dynasty. It points out the specialities of appointing frontier officials by giving an overall review to the election properties of Ci Shi, Jun Shou, and Hu Qiang Jiao Wei. These specialities are due to the stabilization of Han Dynasty, the necessity of exploiting and administrating to the northwest frontier, and the changing policies in the frontier.The third chapter talkes about the frontier officials' administration to the northwest region. In Han Dynasty, frontier officials made great attribution to the stabilization, exploitation, prosperity and development of the northwest region, and the harmonious relationship between Han and the minorities. But the measure taken by the central govemment also raised certain conflictions due to frontier officials' prejudice to the minorities and some improper policies.
