The Character Design And The Artistic Style In Dongping's Novels

As for Dongping, a pre-eminent writer, I don't think there is fruitful research on him in the history of literature. Some experts and scholars have exhibited some personal opinions on his novels. However, in my opinion, none of the dissertations are sufficient and in-depth enough to give detailed analysis of the artistic features of his novels.This article aims to make further research on the features of Dongping's novel creation from two noticeable aspects—the character design and the artistic style.The layout of the article is in two parts.The first part focuses on the analysis of his character design. In Dongping's novels, there are mainly four types of characters—children, fathers, soldiers and common people. In my article, I emphatically expatiate on the reason why Dongping chose the four types, analyze their main features and probe whether there is mental projection of the author himself on them and how to discover the subjective spirit of the author by researching the characters in his novels.The second part focuses on the analysis of the artistic style of Dongping's novels. In my opinion, the artistic style Dongping's novels somewhat bears the features of modernistic novels, which are embodied in the aspects as follows: the emotional keynote of "rightness and valor", the tragedy spirit, the direct psychology description, ignoring surface features of the characters and typical environment, essayization of the layout, etc. The formation of the features results from the influence made by some other writers at home and abroad. I think the dominant influence on him was some Russian literary works. Furthermore, European and American modernism , Nietzsche, Freud, Hu Feng and Lu Xun also exerted an influence on him to some degree.
