Duanmu Hongliang, the novelist, is well known for his romantic writings, but as to the connotations, his articles bear a great deal of tragic sense. The textual structural is based on tragedies, and take on a tragic look.The tragic consciousness of Duanmu Hongliang is formed by the background of his special living experience and sociocultural history. It mainly from the opposite consciousness by double"blood"; the blue temper by the great grassland; the anxious consciousness in the yeasty society conditions. These motive Duanmu thought the life's value and destiny, quest the springhead of the tragic on and on.Duanmu Hongliang , in his novels , has created characters of various kinds and concerned about their tragic life. Duanmu's novels are human-centered, and their life tragedies are revealed in the odds and ends of daily life as well as in the interrelationship of the human beings. Duanmu Hongliang describes the difficult lives of his characters, how they are compelled by the society , how they get lost in finding ways to survive , hence they get distorted and disillusioned , and tortured both physically and spiritually . In his tragic sense , Duanmu showed his concern for human nature , which were undermined by the social conventions and thus one becomes dead to reason and walks to disaster . Duanmu's novels objectively describe the living status of the contemporary people and meditate with his tragic sense their fate , human nature and personality.The characters , who be created by Duanmu in his novels , have already take on some extent opposition sense which compare with the characters in Chinese classical drama . But if these tragic characters compare with the ancient Greece drama , their opposition sense has not very intensive.
