In recent years,a new translation theory,eco-translatology,has come into being along with the trend of the times, and more translators pay attention to the development of eco-translatology studies in deeper depth.Eco-translatology is a new translation theory based on the traditional theory,by referring to Darwin’s theory that "survival of the fittest in natural selection of this theory, the survival of the fittest",organically combining the ecology and translation together. Therefore, this paper analyzes the basic connotation of eco-translatology,and from the perspective of the novel in English version of The Sorrow of Egret Lake—Selected Short Stories of Duanmu Hongliang, the paper analyzes how Howard Goldblatt translates Duanmu Hongliang’s works on the basis of three-dimensional transformations. The paper studies translation from the perspective of ecology, and provides reference for translators,in order to bring more Chinese outstanding literary works to overseas. The theoretical foundation of eco-translatology is approach to translation as adaption and selection, which is manifested in three dimensions:language dimension, culture dimension and communication dimension. It provides a new theoretical perspective for the translation of literary texts. This is of great guiding significance for the researchers to study translation of literary works. The development and application of eco-translatology makes the translation of literary works more consistent with the language style of original language, and also guarantees the literary connotation of the original text. The Sorrow of Egret Lake—Selected Short Stories of Duanmu Hongliang selects eight short stories during the Anti Japanese War period, which represents the changes in the theme in these two periods and its artistic achievement. He vividly describes the various local customs and natural styles. The authors selects a particular cultural environment and language environment in the description of characters. However, when the translator translates the text into English, how to deal with the differences between the meaning of dialects and readers’ understanding by the adaptive selection and transformation has become a very important issue and the core content of the paper. The English version of the novel chooses the perspective of eco-translatology,which is consistent with the characteristics of the novel itself. In terms of environment contrast and character description,it conforms to the theoretical requirements and practical requirements of eco-translatology.This paper is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is the introduction of the main research background and research issues and significance. The second chapter is literature review, introducing Howard Goldblatt as a translator and his translation of literary works. It also introduces Duanmu Hongliang, and gives further explanation to the translation of this work,so that readers can understand the basic situation of the author and the translator and emphasize the necessity of this topic. The third chapter builds the theoretical framework of eco-translatology,and illustrates the basic content and theoretical basis of eco-translatology.The fourth chapter is the main part.Combined with the The Sorrow of Egret Lake一Selected Short Stories of Duanmu Hongliang, the paper analyzes the application of translation strategies from the perspective of eco-translatology.It mainly discusses the approach to translation as adaption and selection in the language dimension, culture dimension and communication dimension in the process of translation. It illustrates with the theory foundation and text analysis from the eco-translatology perspective provided by different translation strategies. The fifth chapter is the conclusion of the paper, and summarizes the impact of ecological translation on the translation of literary works. There is still a lot to be perfected in the development of eco-translatology,and the combination of its theory and application can be improved and developed. On the basis of the first four chapters,it sums up the function and influence on the translation strategies and literary translation, and clarifies the significance to improve the use of translation strategies, which will has important theory value to improve translation level, and grasp the translation of different types of texts.
