There are many figures with feminist color in the western literature. Rebecca in Vanity Fair, Scarlett in Gone with the Wind, and Molly in Ulysses are the typical representatives of this. There is something in common on these three characters from a feminist point of view, though they are in different ages or societies. But as the female sex, their social status and circumstances are different because of the different ages and societies they live. Approaching from a feminist perspective, this essay analyzes and compares Rebecca, Scarlett and Molly. And we can understand the living conditions and social standing of women in the western countries, through their circumstances and destinies. There are five parts in this essay:Foreword part: More and more images with feminist color have occurred in the western literature after the movement for women's rights, and the theory of feminist literature also has developed. Cut in with this, give a brief introduction to the writing backgrounds of the three novels.Chapter one: The"vamp"broken the"magic mirror". Use feminist theory to compare and analyze the three characters from three angles: rebels against patriarchy morality; the role of wife; the role of mother.Chapter two: From femininity to androgyny. Compare and analyze the three characters from the angle of gender and temperament.Chapter three: Embarrassed plight and free circumstance. Compare different situations in novels of these three characters, and analyze the cause brought about such differences. Conclusion: The decisive factor of women's emancipation is the power of the society. It is the emancipation of men that the emancipation of women is.
