Paul Gilroy is a scholar who comes from The Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies of Birmingham, his research mainly concentrates on"the race"and"the black culture". Gilroy's research on"race"has caused him to form a set of unique academic system, thus occupies an important status in nowadays western and even the world cultural studies. However, domestic research in this field is still at the starting line. While ,Overseas have some profound opinions, but lack of an integral reorganization and analysis on his thought. This situation has decided the paper's significance and mission.The paper is totally divided into four parts. In the first part, the author analyzes the change from class to race firstly, then introduces Gilroy and analyzed the inherited relationship between Gilroy and CCCS, holds the opinion that Gilroy's thoughts comes under the CCCS in particular Hall's tremendous influence. At last, it describes the acceptances and commentaries to Gilroy in the academic world.The second part is the core of this paper. The judgment to the nation and the nationalism established Gilroy's foundation of racial research. Therefore, this article has firstly analyzed the relationships of them, then inquired into his further research of the black diaspora identity and the cultural politics analytical mode of"Black Atlantic". Analyzed the surmounting racial society construction under the background of globalization finally.The third part is another important constituent in Gilroy's cultural studies:"The black expressive culture"."The black expressive culture",which is one kind of important hybrid culture form, has both the important cultural and political significance to the black and also the intense attraction to the white youth.The fourth part is the conclusion. The writer insists that Gilroy's research on"race"makes him occupies the important position in the British cultural studies, his study has a profound influence.This paper hopes to take a profound reading on Gilroy's racial cultural works, to present his developmental venation more comprehensively, and makes an appropriate analysis and localization to his research.
