The Study Of Zhang Xuechen's Thoughts About Truth

Zhang Xuecheng ,a famous scholar of Qing Danasty, who had independent philosophic thought at that time. His theories about literature and history were extension of his philosophic thought. His literary thoughts combined philosophy with historiography and literature, which showed his pursuit of truth.In Zhang's opinion ,he regarded"Dao"as the origin of all, it was connected with the daily life of people ,and emerged during the development of the history."Dao"was the union of authenticity and abstractness. Literature should reflect"Dao"and all the things around us. Real system is composed of Dao , literature and daily life. Zhang Xuecheng put forward to a concept named"Six Classics were all History", he preferred to learning from history ,instead of learning from the classics. He insisted that we would know less by learning from the classics than that of learning from the history. For learning from the history we could master the alteration ,and achieve the goal of managing state affairs. Zhang thought that the literature of War Danasty and latter period after that were based on ancient history. Writing should inherit the spirit of the history, face the social life and manage state affairs. According to the writing ,Zhang Xuecheng hold that writing should adapt to the needs of truth which was consist of imagery ,affairs and theory. Especially, Zhang Xuecheng pointed that there were two kinds of Imagery: one was nature imagery, the other was constructed by our soul, and the latter one was based on the former one. So these two kinds of Imagery were based on the nature. They all meet the needs of truth. The concept had made a rapid progress in the field of literature criticism. Zhang Xuecheng also found that the intension and the attitude of creation of the writer would have a powerful influence on the truth of the writing.Zhang Xuecheng put forward to a concept"Clarity and Truth", he set it as the standard for the writing. Clarity, mean the writing should have their own styles. Truth, mean the writing should have their own content. The writing should be a creative work. He hold the standard and severely criticized the writing of Ming and Qing Danasty.The key concept of Zhang Xuecheng's literary thoughts was his pursuit of truth, which would do a good job for country and people. Many of his concepts seem out-of-date, in fact, they contain many new issues. Because of these ,his literary thoughts were ignored , One the contrary, it's worth for us to study his literary thoughts .
