Susanne K. Langer is a female contemporary art philosopher, art theorist, Symbol Aesthetics synthesizer in American. Her art theory thought is very rich, the viewpoints is distinct and original, In the situation of multi-dimensional development of the 20th century west aesthetics ,she opened a new way for esthetics research.In the 20th century, the two big tidal of humanism and scientific doctrine presented an opposite development tendency at the same time, Humanism researched the essence of the word and the philosophy question by inquiring about the human itself, but the scientific doctrine pay great attention to the experience and the logical real diagnosis. Susanne K Langge's theory was the synthesis to the humanism and science doctrine. Cassirer's human culture semiotics thougth have a directly and deeply influence on her. She studied the artistic question by semiotics view and adopted many virtues of representationalism,formalism and intuitionism and merged the theoretical background of psychology and logic. She proposed a new artistic definition: Art is the creation of human emotion symbolic form .Emptiness and illusion, truth and fact has always been an important issue for Art Research, specially when the research meet the abstract, mobile, fuzzy music art ,it becomes more confusion. On the background of artistic symbolic semiotics , Susanne K. Langer brought forward her art illusion theory from the angle of the artistic form and distincted between the art illusion and artistic symbols. She make the art illusion theory become the foundation stone of her aesthetic theory , and hoped to realize a gigantic values in concrete art category practice. Susanne K. Langer illusion music theory is an important component of her art illusion theory. She construct her theoretical system by the study of music. The representation, the form, the emotion, the life, the consciousness, the intuition and so on a series of concepts are all established on music analysis.Before she proposed her music illusion theory, she had corrected the erroneous understanding of traditional music theory and had made the mew limits to music essence, that the music is one kind of may listen to but not obvious form movement. She has given the new explanation in the definition of the music form and the movement. On the definition of music illusion, she regareded the illusion time sequence and continued existence of life as the two basic elements of music. On this basis, she explained the features of music illusion: emotion symbols, forms of life, imagine spatial and auditory hallucinations. She also proposed a link of new theory on music creation, performance and appreciation. The concept of the form of directives, tone imagine were unprecedented in the history of music aesthetics. This article draws up from Susanne K. Langer's music essence and music illusion, unifies the concrete music work to analyze the feature of music illusion. According to her art assimilation principle, the article comparion the music illusion with literary illusion and painting illusion to understand its important position in music history and the art history.The essence of music, content and form, and self-discipline and other-discipline, creativity and appreciation are the question that can not be evaded at the beginning of art philosophy and music aesthetics and art research. Susanne K. Langer efforted to extricate themselves from self-discipline on music theory and aesthetic limitations of the respective schools by"sign", "Mirage"and"forms of life". She regulated the contradictions of self-discipline and other-discipline in the traditional music theory between form and content, and established the new theory milestone on music beautiful exploration path. At the 20th century beginning, West's artistic world have had a deep transformation from the theory idea to the artistic practice. Music esthetics also presents the multi-dimensional development situation. This article draws up from music critique of Susanne K. Langer to the modernist music school, hopes to inspire for the modern art and let the sound of Heaven play a clean and harmonious roles in felling and emotions, human and society.
