In the great practice of land reform, different from the policy advocatedby Engles to close the door to the middle peasants and neutralize the uppermiddle peasants, which was advocated by Lenin, the Communist Party ofChina adopted the policy of uniting the middle peasants. The importance ofuniting the middle peasants lay in the characteristics and arduous task ofChinese revolution and the possibility in the features of Chinese middlepeasants, i.e. their economic and political position and attitude to Chineserevolution. In fact, uniting the middle peasants was the outcome of combiningMarxism with China's specific circumstances, which was a furtherdevelopment of Marx's theory about farmers. The formation, developmentand perfection of our Party's policy in the land reform were carried through tothe end. The whole process can be roughly divided into the following stages:The period from our Party's initial stage to the first civil war witnessed theformation and development of uniting the middle peasants, while theperfection of this policy lay in the periods of Anti-Japanese War, LiberationWar and initial stage of the foundation of China. As a result, our Partysuccessfully solved the problem of uniting the middle peasants andaccumulated rich experience which includes: the correct distinction betweenthe class members, which is a premise of uniting them; and given themeconomical and political profit, and at least not infringed upon their profit;and the struggle againist the incorrect tendency towards absoluteequalitarianism and only relying on poor peasants; and formulated a correctpolicy on rich peasants; and dynamic observation of the middle peasants'issue and proper adjustment based on their changes.
