The republic time has the vital significance in Rome'sdevelopment course. During this period, Rome has realized theenormous change arriving at an empire from a city-state. Theglory of the Roman Republic gave birth to the Republicantradition, it mainly involves two aspects: the balance of therepublican government and the early Rome people's good moralcharacters. The republican tradition forms in the developmentof the Roman Republic, simultaneously, it played an importantin the rising of the Republic. However, the republicantradition is along with Rome which adapts with the early Romespecial history condition and the social background. Withunceasing foreign conquers and expansion, the Rome's socialeconomic structure had undergone great changes, the republicangovernment constantly being violated, and the citizenmorals perished day by day. As a result, the republicantradition inevitably declined.This thesis is intended to do a more centralized and deepargumentation as to the constitution and development of therepublican tradition. Through analyzing the entire process ofthe republican tradition, it hopes to obtain an objective and comprehensive appraisal. Except for the preface and theepilogue the whole thesis is divided into four parts to discuss.The first part deals with the formation and developmentof the Republican tradition. This is the key part of the paper.It mainly analyses the historical background of the republicantradition and talks about its two main components.The second part is the connecting part of the whole paper.It mainly talks about the transforms of Rome's social-economicstructure during the third century B.C. This part focuses onthe analysis of two aspects: the rapid development of Rome'sslavery economy and the bankruptcy of the small peasanteconomy.The third part deals with the decline of traditionalRepublicans. This part also is the key point of the paper. Thispart, from the perishing of the republican government and thecitizen morals, analyses the decaying of the Republicantraditional.The fourth part comments on the Republican tradition. Thispart has carried out simple valuation on the republicantradition mainly from three aspects.
