The three slave revolts which broke out in the late Roman republic were assuredly the concentrated expression of social crisis deriving from intense social conflicts. What were the causes of these very large slave uprisings? What effect did the slave revolt have on social change in the late republic of Rome?Unquestionably,it deserves the attention of the academic community. After the great conquest, the Roman slave system was fully developed, and a large number of slaves acted as the main force in the production of Rome, creating a glorious Roman slavery civilization.Nevertheless, the cruel exploitation and oppression of the slave owners led to the decline of the slave's survival.Accordingly, geting rid of slavery, and striving for freedom became the common voice of all slaves. Two Sicilian slave uprisings and the Spartacus revolt not merely caused the"domino effect",which struck a serious blow at the rule of the Roman slave owners. They had to adjust ruling policies.More importantly, the slave uprisings had aggravated the social contradictions and crisis in the late republic, and made the heavily damaged Roman society more and more turbulent, thus accelerated the change process from the republic to imperial Rome. Therefore,in a way,the slave revolt was an important impetus for the transformation of Rome from the republic to the monarchy, and its historical impact should not be underrated.
