In the process of English teaching for the college art students, teachers are always hunted by the following problems: No matter how hard they try, there is not much response from the learners in class. Students'passivity is found everywhere. They have no interest in English learning. What are the reasons? Among the factors, the very important one is that students lack English learning motivation. Therefore it becomes an important research project for college teachers to initiate students'English learning motivation. So the present study explores how to use web-based resources to initiate college art students'English learning motivation, aiming to increase college art students'interest in learning English, promote their active learning and improve their English learning results.Based on literature review, and in combination with college art students'English learning characteristics, as well as the development and employment of web-based resources, a framework of using web-based resources to initiate college art students'English learning motivation is designed. Two classes are involved in the study, one being the experimental class instructed with the aid of web-based resources, the other being the control class taught with normal English teaching method. Both pre- and post- tests, pre- and post- questionnaires are conducted in the two classes. The results of the SPSS analysis indicate that in the experimental class the students'interest and progress in English learning are obviously higher than those in the control class, which proves that using web-based resources can initiate college art students'English learning motivation and improve their English proficiency.
