"The Renaissance of the Twelfth Century" occurred in Western Europe in theHigh Middle Ages. On the basis of historical and cultural conditions in severalcenturies, Western Europe experienced the whole going-backward and culturalpoverty in early Middle ages, and reached unprecedented prosperity. During "theRenaissance of the Twelfth Century", massive classical works were translated, andthe earliest universities were established, and the rational thought was recognized.There were also a lot of creative development in the fields of literature, law, art,science and history. These achievements indicated a new direction for reviewingthe old argument——"the dark Middle Ages", and searching into the origin of theItalian Renaissance in fourteenth century. English culture in the Middle Ages wasan important part of "the Renaissance of the Twelfth Century". England had alsoobtained many prominent achievements in various aspects, as we demonstratedabove, and showed some characteristics, such as emphasis, praise, inheritance andreformation. England played a very important role in "the Renaissance of theTwelfth Century", and the latter one promoted the formation of specific nationalculture in England. It created a great deal of precious and significant culturalheritage for human civilization as well.
