Exploration On Traditional Liyuan Opera In Quanzhou

In review of our study for ancient opera, our research mainly focuses on the script,singing tonality, music and performance, etc. The opera morphological study, especially,the study on opera attire has been long ignored as one of the most important part.This thesis, choosing the Quan Zhou Li Yuan Opera as the case and on the basis offield investigation and theoretical analysis explores several aspects of the attire in Li YuanOpera such as the style, color, texture, makeup and hairstyle, etc. with help of localhistorical documents, cultural anthropology, and religion. Additionally, the thesis analyzesthe factors of how the characteristics of Li Yuan Opera developed from the perspectivesof historical succession, religion, custom, nature, and geography.Li Yuan Opera is one of the ancient operas handing down from the South OperaSchool and the attire development is strongly characterized with Quan Zhou culture,because of being affected by two reasons, the internal development of the South Operaand external influence from Quan Zhou geographical characters, religious atmosphere,cultural and social customs. The point of studying the attire of Li Yuan Opera is not onlygood for studying Li Yuan Opera itself, but for displaying the characteristics of the QuanZhou culture. Meanwhile, it is expected that this important study would enhance thepreservation of this attire tradition.
