Cognitive Study On Several Rhetoric Figures

Traditional Rhetoric scholars thought Rhetoric was a mean of communication and a trial of adjusting utterance. Their studies focused on division of rhetoric figures and arrangement for language materials. Though they accumulated a lot of materials, they are not sure that rhetoric is a method of social intercourse.Cognitive Linguistics focus on the influence of people's feelings, experiences and ways to observe the world on utterance. This is the same as adjusting utterance. Therefore it is valuable ,which we study on rhetoric materials with Cognitive Linguistics theories. And this thesis agrees on the viewpoint above.Rhetoric materials include using words, making sentences, forms of literature, style and so on. Be confined to my learning, this thesis only includes several rhetoric figures. One reason is that these rhetoric figures are in common use.
