| The pedigree of Pu-Ji is the most important one in the North Sect of Chan and it's continuance and ideology can reflect the trend of development about the North Sect of Chan in it's middle and behind period, but the study to the situation is not enough. We have more study data because a lot of data about Chan in Tang Dynasty were found in Dun Huang and Sculpture carvings data about the pedigree of Pu-Ji were discovered in other places. This is the purpose of the article.This text roughly includes four parts: The fist part define "the North Sect of Chan" and divide the stages about it's history. In the past time, many scholars have thought the North Sect of Chan equal to the sect of Shen-Xiu. This part introduces the North Sect of Chan should include Fa-Ru, Lao-An and Xuan-Ze expect for Shen-Xiu from their geography position, background of political and cultural, ideology of Chan and their relation. In addition, this part divide the history of the North Sect of Chan into three periods according to the confusion of An and Shi and Wu Emperor in Tang Dynasty exterminating the Buddhism. The earlier stage of the North Sect of Chan is clear, so this text mainly discuss the development of the sect of Pu-Ji in the middle and behind period of the North Sect of Chan.The second part mainly research the development of the pedigree of Pu-Ji on the basis of data about Chan in Tang Dynasty found in Dun Huang and Sculpture carvings data about the pedigree of Pu-Ji discovered in other places. This part analyze the situation of the pedigree of Pu-Ji from prosperity to decline in Chang-An, Luo-Yang, Song mountain and other places from the Eighth century to the ninth century. The purpose of the study delineate the general picture of the North Sect of Chan.The third part mainly study the ideology of the pedigree of Pu-Ji. It's development mainly includes four factors: First, Tan-Zhen elaborate the ideology of "Nothing". He extend thinking of practice to no rigid, no action, no location, no domination, no living, no thought and no obtaining. The part explain the relation between subjective and essence from the method of practice to the result in order to strongthen the meaning of practice from heart. Second, Fa-Wan's ideology of teaching. He think people should decide their attitude according to property of "Rule" that. Includes no hate and love, no difference, no taking or rejecting, no going and coming. So, we should not show pleased and angry, treat high and low as same, equate gain and loss, and Life and death equal to elapse of voice. Fa-Wan's ideology show he combine practice of Chan with daily life. Third, realistic meaning of Pu-Ji's regulation and practice lie in two factors: On the one hand, it shows the function of regulation to the monks. On the other hand, it performance political function to the government. As for the relation between practice of Chan and Intelligence, the pedigree of Pu-Ji' expressions is more mature. Forth, Bai-Ju-Yi explain Fa-Ning's "Eight Process of Practice of Chan" with his "Eight Paralances". His ideology formate the whole theory system from essence to practice of Chan, finally to daily practice. In addition, the part discuss influence between the South and North Sect of Chan for example Hui-Jian and Mo-He-Yan.The forth part mainly discuss the reasons for prosperity and decline of the pedigree of Pu-Ji and it's influence to the sect of Chan, even the whole thought boundary. The support of the government and the development of it's ideology are the important reasons for the prosperity and decline of the pedigree of Pu-Ji, but the support of the government is also one reason for it's failure. In addition, the confusion of An and Shi and Wu Emperor in Tang Dynasty exterminating the Buddhism result in the break to the development of the pedigree of Pu-Ji. The reform of the South Sect of Chan is more thorough than the North Sect and most monks of the former come from social bottom layer, so the North Sect gradually lose crowd's foundation. Finally, the ideology of the North Sect embody the factor of disintegration by itself. The pedigree of Pu-Ji and it's ideology are all represent of the North Sect. The South Sect and the thought of Confucian all aborb the ideology of the North Sect, so it's history position should be affirmation. |
