The Peiligang Culture is an important part of the culture of the early-Neolithic period in the central area of the ancient China. Research on the Peiligang Culture will make some further help to find out the process of the form and the development of the prehistorically archaeological culture in the central area of the ancient China. There are many kinds of opinions on the phases and the archaeological type of the Peiligang Culture nowadays. Based on the former research, the phases, times, the regional type and so on are discussed in this paper. There are four parts in this paper.The first one is the foreword. Here gives the introduction about the distribution and the brief history of the research on the phases and the archaeological type of the Peiligang Culture. Then the range and the purpose of the research in this paper are narrated.The second part is about the phases and the times. Here first comes the checkout about the former phases on six typical sites of the Peiligang Culture, and then puts forward new ideas of phases about one or two sites. The comparison and contrast of each phase in each typical site are carried out, according to the ceramic characteristics from these sites. The typological analysis on some important relics is put up. Summing up the conclusion from the analysis above, the Peiligang Culture, divided into four phases, is considered as the culture of the early-Neolithic period. The absolute time of the Peiligang Culture is presumed as between 8,000 to 7,000 years away from now via the measurable data of 14C.The third part is about the compartmentalization of the Peiligang Culture. The Peiligang Culture is divided into two types, the Peiligang Type and the Jiahu Type, based on the analysis of the cultural visage and the correlation of typical sites. Phases of each type are put up and other present opinions about phases are discussed.The last part is the epilogue.
