This thesis focuses on listening comprehension testing because listening ability appears to be crucial in overall language ability and listening comprehension is found in most general proficiency tests and other types of language tests. Likewise, listening comprehension parts also hold the balance in the National College English Test (CET).This study aims to make the application of communicative language testing to college English listening teaching. The real communicative competence of test-takers is hoped to be tested and the current college English listening teaching can benefit a lot at the same time. The thesis analyses the characteristics of communicative language testing and the backwash effects on communicative language testing. And it makes mentions of the importance of listening comprehension and current situations of listening comprehension testing as well. We present the definition of a listening construct and theories .A construct can be defined as an ability or a set of abilities that will be reflected in test performance. Communicative competence is the ability that test takers are supposed to have. Finally,we make a suggestion with a hope that the tests can fairly measure the students'communicative competence in CET. And an experimental test of listening comprehension is proposed for college students. Through the experiment, we draw the conclusion that communicative listening testing can truly reflect the students'communicative competence and this kind of language testing can help improve the listening teaching in college.
