The Japanese Yamato-e and the Chinese Tao hua wu New Year Woodblock Prints are in the world printing history two rare and beautiful flowers. Both belonging to the field of folk printing, they have many in common such as expression means, theme choosing, the same appreciators and so on. This article discusses the differences which hide under their general characters, and tries to find out the causes for these differences from the point of national disposition.Daine,critic and historian of France, thought that the nature of material civilization and the spiritual civilization lie on three factors—the race, the times and the environment. So Daine suggested that in order to understand an artwork, an artist, or a group of artists we must fully consider the general condition of spirit and custom of the era they lived. From his viewpoint we may draw such conclusions: the formation and characteristics of any artistic genre have a close correlation with the times and race which it belongs. Being independent artistic genres, the Yamato-e and the Chinese Tao hua wu New Year Woodblock Prints obviously have undeniable differences. Causes of these differences are various, and this article tries to analyze the differences between them from the point of humanities.Chinese Tao hua wu New Near Woodblock Prints and the Japanese Yamato-e once have the same things in history, but the entirely different formation environment, the national disposition have finally created two completely different genres. From the aspects of the theme, the tinting, the composition, the manufacture and the influence this article compares the differences between Chinese Tao hua wu New Year Woodblock Prints and the Yamato-e. Then, the author tries to find the causes of the differences from the point of national disposition. Finally, try to find some inspiration to current artistic creation with the artistic practice. The article can be divided into four parts:First part: Understand the developing process of both Yamato-e and Chinese Tao hua wu New Year Woodblock Prints, and tidy up their origins, through which explain the feasibility and necessity of the comparison.Second part: Starting from the compare of the two countries' geographical environment, summarizes the differences in nationality between Japan and China, which builds the foundation for the comparison between Yamato-e and Chinese Tao hua wu New Year Woodblock PrintsThird part:. Compare the Yamato-e and Chinese Tao hua wu New Year Woodblock Prints in aspects of the theme, the tinting, the composition, the manufacture and the affection. Then try to find out the reason caused the differences from the point of nationality.Fourth part: Summary. Through the comparison, I hope the readers can regard the culture of both countries with more reason and impersonality, therefore can find something useful to your current work.
