In the modern novelistic history, Beijing Novelistic School, an important school, has undergone its ups and downs from its 1920's springing up to its 1980's re-boom. Confronted with both the early suspicion and criticism and the present admiration, Beijing Novelistic School is undergoing reevaluation by many researchers and the masses. Endowed with its peculiar artistic pursuit and creativity, the evolution of this school, to some extent, has enriched the overall history of Chinese modern literature.Beijing Novelistic School aims at pursuing the pastoral beauty of trouble-free quietness, which is obviously one of its most important features. Therefore, the subject matter of this school mainly focuses upon nostalgic praise of hometowns, descriptions of habits and customs and childhood recalling in pursuit of psychological asylum and modern human dreams. A series of images of hometowns are applied to manifesting writers' thirst for both the harmony between life and nature and individual freedom and personality liberation. In this sense, novels of Beijing School are novels about human destiny, because on the surface is a beautiful novelized world represented by the classic quietness and harmony, underneath which is a lonely soul full of upset, pain ,disappointment and avoidance of social reality. These novels of Beijing School, immersed in modern people's upset and the sadness of lost quietness, have implied the hardness and unpredictability of human life. Furthermore, Novels of Beijing School have revealed and criticized the alienation of human life. Through revealing the ugliness of twisted human nature in urban reality, writers aim at displaying the ideal noble dignity of life. Insight into the seemingly beautiful life uncovers the hidden bloody nature of life and death. In this sense, Beijing Novelistic School has reinterpreted the modern consciousness through reflection on the transformed traditional culture from another angle.
