Cui Shiguang was born in the north-east in 1948. He was admitted into Central Institute of Music in 1962 and apprenticed to professors Chen Jingzhai, Guo Zhihong and Zhu Gongyi. He was not only a pianist, but also an outstandng composer. Along these years, he has been dedicated to musical composition. With his multiple composing style, his works are not only popular within our country, but also influential abroad.Shandong FengSuZuQu was composed in late 1970s, when the Cultural Revolution had just ended and musical creation was reviving. This work consists of six tunes, namely, Xiang tu xiaodiao, Duihua, Nan feiyan, Huixiequ, Xiyu and Hua gu. From this work, we may clearly feel the composer's attempts to combine traditional folk tunes with modern western musical elements.This paper is made up of four chapters. The first chapter introduces Cui Shiguang's life and musical creation; the second chapter is an analysis of the characteristics of material of Shandong FengSuZuQu; the third chapter analyzes Shandong FengSuZuQu's sound technique, which is a combination of the east and the west; from musical perspective; the fourth chapter explores the representation of folk elements in Shandong FengSuZuQu; the fifth chapter is a playing analysis of Shandong FengSuZuQu based on its aesthetic characteristics.As a work of Chinese style, Shandong FengSuZuQu develops national culture of music, retains national style and vocabulary. It displays its unique characteristic and value among the multitude of musical works.
